Evening Standard Fund for the Dispossessed

London is a shameful tale of two cities. In the richest capital in Europe almost half our children live below the poverty line.

These children and their families - the Dispossessed - are cut off from the life most Londoners take for granted. As London's paper, the Evening Standard believes it is important to champion their cause.

Thames Community foundation is proud to be a partner in the Evening Standard Fund for The Dispossessed to fight poverty - and raise £1 million to fight the causes behind The Dispossessed.

Apply - For grants for use by 31st January 2011

Are you fighting poverty in London?

Then the Evening Standard Fund for The Dispossessed wants to support you.

The Evening Standard is helping communities across London by linking them to the distribution of an amazing £1 million in small grants.

It is available for charities who are working to tackle the causes of the grinding poverty behind London's Dispossessed. Not-for-profit voluntary and community groups are invited to apply for grants of between £250 and £5000.

You must prove you are working to lift people out of poverty in one of the following areas:

  • Training and educating people who have dropped out of mainstream education
  • Getting people into work such as through apprenticeship or mentor schemes
  • Fighting gangs, knife and gun crime
  • Improving mental and physical health and well-being, such as through sports clubs and helping carers
  • Addressing other manifestations of poverty such as homelessness, pensioner poverty or the working poor

The types of group or organisation that will be funded will:

  • be not-for-profit, third sector voluntary or community groups active in their local community for not less than 12 months
  • have an evidenced income of less than £30,000 per annum
  • be volunteer led (i.e. with largely volunteer based input)

Hundreds of incredible charities across London are fighting the causes of The Dispossessed. Together they are tackling the grinding poverty that blights the city. But these charities need help.

The Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund is aiming to raise £1 million to support the local heroes who lift people out of poverty by targeting education, crime, health, and unemployment.

Even better, by working with partners such as Thames Community Foundation it will be possible to more than double the value of your donation using the unique Government matching scheme - Grassroots Grants Matched Challenge - that would raise a total of more than £2 million. If you care about London, dig deep and donate!

Get involved by pledging money now and see your contribution more than doubled by the Government's Grassroots Grants programme managed by the Community Development Foundation.

Donations to the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund are being collected by Community Foundation Network (CFN), registered charity No 2651777. CFN will distribute monies received from the appeal to their partner charities in proportion to their capacity to match the donations with funds from the Government's Grassroots Grants programme to be applied for the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund. The partner charities have agreed to use these donations to address issues identified by the Evening Standard's Dispossessed Campaign and to grant fund community organisations undertaking charitable work in London.

* Because we are working with the Government's Grassroots Grants programme all donations we receive will at least be doubled.
