Comic Relief Local Communities Fund |
Thames Community Foundation has been invited by Comic Relief to distribute some of the funds raised through Red Nose Day and Sport Relief to benefit our local communities which may be suffering from economic and social deprivation.
We are therefore inviting applications for grants up to £10,000 from voluntary and community organisations working in the London Boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Hounslow, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth.
What are the grants for?
The grants are designed to support community groups who are using a range of activities, including sport, to:
- Increase access to sport and exercise for people who face social exclusion and isolation
- Help people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives to regain their confidence and self-esteem
- Build skills of local people
- Increase community cohesion
- Respond to local economic needs
Who can apply?
Groups need to:
- Be working in a disadvantaged or deprived area
- Be small, locally based groups or organisations who have a clear understanding of the needs of their community
- Have limited access to other sources of income
The kinds of groups that can apply are:
- Community groups
- Resident associations
- Community centres
- Social enterprises / Community Interest Companies
- Credit Unions
Exclusions
We won’t give grants to:
- Individuals
- Statutory organisations, including schools
- Fund trips abroad
- Fund buses, mini buses or other community transport schemes (other than transport costs forming part of a project)
- Fund building costs, including access adaptations to buildings.
When to apply:
There are two grant rounds each funding year.
Closing dates are:
31st July 2009 29th January 2010
30th July 2010 31st January 2011

Thames Community Foundation Trustees' Fund |
Aimed at smaller voluntary organisations who may be seeking grant funding for the first time. Funding is available for projects that seek to address the needs of
- Children and Young People
- Problems associated with Addiction
- Adults with Disabilities
- Welfare.
Grants of up to £2000 can be awarded to groups based in and working for the benefit of residents of Hammersmith and Fulham, Hounslow, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth.
Applicant groups that have large unrestricted reserves are unlikely to receive funding unless there are clear reasons for holding such unrestricted reserves. Should you fall into this category please telephone our Grants Team for guidance.
The next closing dates for the Trustees' Fund are: 30th September 2009, 4th January 2010 and 31st March 2010. Please ensure that Thames Community Foundation receives your application by 12 noon on the closing date.

British Airways Community Investment Fund for Hounslow |
Grants of up to £5000 are available from this Fund for Hounslow based projects that seek to work with local residents to address issues relating to:
- Youth Development
- The Environment
Occasionally, larger sums may be considered for outstanding projects.
If you are thinking of making an application for funding please complete an Expression of Interest form, as the first step.
We would also recommend that you should have a preliminary discussion with a Grants Officer about the project for which you may seek funding. Please call us on 020 8943 6030.
The next closing date for submitting an Expression of Interest is Friday 29th May 2009.
We anticipate being able to advise grant decisions by the end of July 2009.
There are normally two grant rounds in June/July and
December/January annually.

Richmond Civic Trust |
Grants are awarded annually to projects within the London borough of Richmond Upon Thames that:
- Seek to achieve improvements to the environment in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames
- Seek to achieve improvements in the physical character of the Borough of Richmond upon Thames to include the provision of additional facilities for the benefit of the community in the Borough
- Seek through improvements to the environment and to the physical character of the Borough to bring about an increase in the enjoyment, living standards and general well being of local communities.
Grants are currently awarded in March and September. Amounts of between £500-£10,000 may be applied for. The majority of grants are likely be in the £1500-£2500 range although the September grant round will be looking for opportunities to fund larger projects of local significance for which a maximum grant of £10,000 could be made awarded.
Applications received by 12 noon on Friday 28th August 2009 will be considered in September.

Kingston Voluntary Action Gift Aid Fund |
This Fund was set up as a unique collaboration between Thames Community Foundation and Kingston Voluntary Action to enable voluntary and community organisations in the Royal Borough to take advantage of the tax benefits that Gift Aid makes available but which are usually restricted to registered charities.
The KVA Gift Aid Fund provides a simple mechanism by which donations to local community and voluntary groups can benefit form the additional 28p in every £ donated which Gift Aid can provide.

Adobe Community Investment Grants |
Thames Community Foundation is proud to be working with Adobe to help deliver the Adobe Community Investment Grants programme.
Adobe is keen to support charitable activity that will help to make the communities around its London, Heathrow Corporate Headquarters better, stronger, and more vibrant places to live, work and do business.
As part of Adobe’s Commitment to Community the company has set up a grant making fund with Thames Community Foundation which is aimed at supporting community and voluntary organisations that address community-specific needs, with an emphasis on the following criteria:
- Arts and cultural organizations with the mission or principal focus on the creation, promotion and exhibition of visual arts, multimedia or video.
- Providing services to reduce hunger and homelessness and provide affordable housing
- Protecting the natural environment and improving public spaces for the enjoyment of the community
- Improving access to electronic information for people with disabilities
Grants programmes
The Adobe Community Investment Grants programme will provide cash grants for general operating and programme support costs through a competitive grant application process.
Grant amounts will range from £3500-£5000 and are for one year only.

The Allianz - Petplan Fund |
Allianz encompassing long established local brands such as Petplan have set up this fund to help local community and voluntary groups in Hounslow.
Grants will be awarded to local groups and organisations that are working to meet the following grant criteria-listed by priority:
- Crime reduction-supporting small locally based crime reduction projects and services which help reduce the impact of crime; for example drug prevention and fire awareness.
- Helping people to gain confidence and new skills- building the capacity and skills within the community through training and development. In particular financial, literacy and reading skills.
- Projects which improve facilities and services for children, young people and adults with disabilities.
- Older people; projects which support or improve facilities for older people.
- Environmental projects that conserve or improve bio diversity or which improve community access to and awareness of the environment.
Grants in the range £500 to £1250 will be awarded.

The Wandsworth Combined Charity
Fund |
This old established local charity has recently set up this Fund with Thames Community Foundation to make small grants to local charities,community groups and voluntary organisations that are working within Wandsworth, with a particular emphasis on the area that comprises the historic Parish Of Wandsworth.
Grants will be awarded to local groups that are committed to meeting one of the following grant criteria:
- The relief of poverty and or need among the elderly.
- Providing education or training to help residents. irrespective of age, to become better equipped to enter the world of work.
There is no minimum amount for which an applicant group or organisation may apply but it is anticipated that grants in the range £500 to £1500 will be awarded.
There will be a preference for applications from eligible groups that are established or based within the Parish Boundaries but the deciding factor for eligibility will be the location of the beneficiaries of any project applying for funding.
To qualify for consideration for funding a majority of a project's beneficiaries should live within the defined geographic area of the Fund.

Richmond upon Thames Council for Voluntary Service Children’s Fund Small Grants Programme Fund |
The Fund wishes to make grants to voluntary and community groups delivering or planning to deliver services for children and young people in the London Borough of Richmond.
The aim of the Richmond Children’s Fund is to: - “address the gap in preventative services for children and young people… by providing increased and better co-ordinated services for
children and young people”
The Richmond Children’s Fund Small Grants Programme has two elements
- Grants for the purchase of equipment from £250 up to £2000
Groups working with children and young people in the age range 0-19 (up to 25 for those with disabilities) will be eligible for funding.
Priority will be given to projects directed at the following priority groups:
- Young people aged 10-13
- Young carers
- Children with disabilities
- Children looked after
- The Traveller community
The Fund will also consider funding groups that are:
- Working with families experiencing the effects of domestic abuse
- Providing parenting support
- Developing robust transitions from under 13 to post 13 services with a particular a particular focus on vulnerable groups.
The next closing dates for sending in applications are 11th September 2009 and 13th November 2009. Applications should be received by Thames Community Foundation by 12 noon on the closing date. We aim to let applicants know the outcome of their applications four weeks after the closing date.

Gate Gourmet Community Fund |
Gate Gourmet is the world's largest independent provider of airline catering and provisioning services.
Gate Gourmet is keen to help local community and voluntary groups in and around their business hub of Heathrow Airport and has established the Gate Gourmet Community Fund with Thames Community Foundation.
Thames Community Foundation will work closely with Gate Gourmet to help support and award grants to organisations that address community needs and meet the following criteria:

Children – supporting projects working with children aged 0-11 years old who are disadvantaged or deprived
Grants will be in the range of £500 to £2000 and will be for one year only.

The Grassroots Grants programme, funded by the Office of the Third Sector, is a key element of the Government’s strategy to build stronger and more active communities by increasing small grant funding to community groups and making them more sustainable.
Grassroots Grants will support small informal voluntary and community groups many of whom depend on volunteers. It may be the first grant for many of the groups that apply.
To apply to Thames Community Foundation, your group must:
- Be a small not-for-profit, third sector voluntary or community group, active in their local community for not less than twelve months before the date of your application.
- Be based in and providing services to residents and communities in one of the seven Grassroots Grants Fund areas.
- Have an income, as shown in the group’s accounts, of less than £30,000 per year taken as an average over the last three years (or over the life of the group if it is less than three years old).Please note the income threshold has been increased to this higher level with effect from 9th February 2009
- Be connected with and/or meeting the needs of the local community
- Have a governing document (constitution or a set of rules) that has, as a minimum requirement, the name of the group, its aims/purpose, objects, a dissolution clause, a list of Trustees/Committee members and Trustees and Committee members’ signatures and names of at least two cheque signatories

Applicants can now apply for Grassroots Grant on-line. This is our preferred method of receiving applications.

The Brand Learning Community Fund supports local community and voluntary groups working with all adults aged 19+ to develop:
- literacy
- numeracy (including IT skills)
- skills training
in the boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Hounslow, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth.
The Brand Learning Community Fund will award cash grants in the range of £500 to £2000 although larger amounts may be available for truly outstanding projects.
Grants will be awarded to help meet general operating and programme support costs, including the purchase of equipment, through a competitive grant application process.
There will be two closing dates in 2009-2010:
Brand Learning is a specialist marketing capability consultancy that is passionate about helping people make the most of their abilities and talents. This Fund will seek out and support those community and voluntary organisations that share this vision.
Brand Learning is particularly keen to support groups that could benefit from practical skills-based volunteering by members of the Brand Learning team.
